Gordon Audio Visual

Board of Directors

Gordon Audio Visual Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Phenomenon Group plc, and the composition of both firms’ boards is identical:

Dr Keith McCullagh, Non-Executive Chairman

Keith is an experienced bioscience entrepreneur. He recently retired as CEO of Santaris Pharma, a Danish biopharmaceutical company, and has served as either executive or non-executive chairman of several UK companies. From 1986 to 1998 he was chief executive of British Biotech plc, a company he built into one of Europe’s leading biopharmaceutical businesses. Prior to founding British Biotech, Keith was UK Research Director for G.D. Searle & Co, Inc, an international pharmaceutical business now part of Pfizer. Keith has been chairman of Phenomenon Group since 1999 and of Gordon Audio Visual since its acquisition by the Group in December 2001.

Nicholas Clark, Managing Director

Nick holds primary responsibility for delivery of the company’s strategy and targets. He founded Phenomenon as a plasma screen research business whilst completing an M.Phil in Microelectronic Engineering and Semiconductor Physics specialising in flat panel displays. He became Managing Director of Gordon Audio Visual in December 2001. He turned the business around by growing the hire business, refocusing the distribution business on more attractive product lines, and disposing of the Company’s reseller activities. He has continued to grow the company through a series of acquisitions, developing a reputation as an acquisitions and turnaround specialist.

Mark Gower, Director

Mark heads up our Thames Valley branch. He joined Gordon Audio Visual in 1994 to develop the Company’s hire activities. At that time the Company had a single site, in Camden, and the hire business was much smaller than the distribution business. Mark remained with the business following the takeover by Phenomenon Group, and he joined the board in November 2004 as Operations Director. He held this position for almost five years when, following a reorganisation, he was asked to head up our Thames Valley branch.

John-David Papworth, Non-Executive Director

John-David joined Phenomenon in 1999 after previous management roles in distribution and in luxury car hire. He was instrumental in managing the transition of Phenomenon from a flat panel research company to a trading business specialising in plasma screen hire. On the acquisition of Gordon Audio Visual in December 2001 he became the Company’s Sales and Marketing Director. During the following eight years he pioneered our information-based approach to sales, improving the quality of the Company’s marketing literature and growing hire revenues sixfold. In 2009 he moved to a non-executive position in order to free up his time to pursue other interests, including overseas development charity The Zambia Trust where he is a founder trustee.
